I was planning to write about something entirely different but the other day someone asked me 'Can you really design a room when you've never actually been in it?' and it got me thinking...

As well as being a great title for a blog post it's also a great question - not least because it reminded me that, although I live and breathe interior design, other people don't necessarily know or care what it involves. 

Obviously if you fall into the ‘don’t care’ category stop reading right now. I won’t be offended!

A lot of us live in houses that are bulging at the seams with people, pets and stuff.

In our parents' day 'moving up the ladder' was considered the natural thing to do as the family's  need for more space grew.

This isn't so easy to do these days, with many of us bringing up our families in houses that our parents would have considered to be low down on the ladder to their forever home. 

The obvious answer is to clear out the clutter and invest in decent storage. Yes, this is true, and there many blogs written on this very subject. So I thought I'd come up with a few less obvious tips for making your home feel bigger and brighter.

This blog came about because of a radio interview I did where I was asked to talk about affordable ways to update our homes during lock-down. 

These strange times we’re living in at the moment call for a bit of creative thinking when it comes to keeping our homes feeling  fresh and interesting.
